John Charles Oprea\ 1950-2007\ Of Lapeer, formerly of Vassar, age 56, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 24, 2007 at his home following a brief illness. John was born June 4, 1950 in Saginaw, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent "Williea and Edith (Lockhart) Oprea. He married Joyce Lindsay on December 31, 1998. He was a member of the Lutheran faith. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a licensed pilot. John was currently self-employed, previously employed by Durakon Industries and Johnston Controls. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, Eagles Post #2427, American Legion #0016 and VFW having served in the U.S. Air Force. John was preceded in death by his wife Joyce, his father, Vincent in 1999, and a son, Anthony in 1995. Surviving are his mother, Edith Oprea of Vassar; a brother, Jerry (Karen) Oprea, a niece, Kari (Jason) Remaley and nephews, Chris and Andrew of Allentown, Pennsylvania, several cousins and his dog, Troubles. Funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2007 at Grace American Lutheran Church - Vassar, Pastor Steve Abend will officiate with burial in Riverside Cemetery. Johnas family will receive friends at Martin Funeral Home - Vassar on Tuesday from 12 noon until 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. John will be taken to the church to lie in state where family will be present from 10:00 a.m. until time of service at 11:00 am. Those who do desire may make memorial contributions to the Grace American Lutheran Church, envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.\ \
