Obituary of Garry Wayne Powers

Of Lapeer, age 69, died Sunday, July 29, 2007 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00am, Wednesday, August 1, 2007 at the St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate Burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery with graveside Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #158 of Clio. Garry's family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm and Tuesday from 11:00am to 3:00pm and again from 5:00pm to 8:00pm. On Tuesday evening, family, friends and parish will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 6:00pm. At 7:00pm Tuesday, family and friends will gather for a K of C Memorial Service followed by a 4th degree Chalice Service. On Wednesday morning, Garry will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to St. Mary School. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.\ \ Garry was born July 17, 1938 in Otisville, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul and Fern (Simmonds) Powers. He and Loretta Sake were united in marriage June 21, 1958. She preceded him in death. Garry and Sarah Ann Jung were united in marriage November 24, 2001 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. As a young man Garry served his country with the US Army and the US Navy. Garry worked as a supervisor for GM at AC Spark Plug for 30 years, retiring in 1992. He also owned and operated Lakeside Archery of Lapeer from 1992 to 2006 and worked with Miles Martin Funeral Home as a driver and greeter for the last 15 years. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris, serving as Lector and Eucharistic Minister, the Holy Family Council #4285, Knights of Columbus and the Leon Satkowiak 4th degree Council #0285. Garry loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He will be greatly missed by all whose life he touched.\ \ Left to cherish are his wife of five years, Sarah Ann, two daughters: Susan and husband Joe Stock, Kimberly and husband Kenny Heathcock, six stepchildren: Mary Sue and husband Paul Corcoran, Gail and husband Mark Alderson, Diane and husband Dan Whitehead, Jeanette and husband Jon Provorse, Rebecca and husband Tom Findlay, Kenneth Jung, three grandchildren: Michael, Joshua and Kevin Bandur, 11 stepgrandchildren, Jason, Amanda, Melissa, Holly, Cassie, Jodi, Meghan, Emily, Christopher, Jordan and Cole, sister, Shirley Fischer of Las Vegas, sister-In-Law, Janice Powers of Waterford and several nieces, nephews and friends. \ \ Garry was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Loretta and brother, Paul. \
