Obituary of Velma R. Gidcumb
Age 88, of Mt Morris, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2024, at home with her family by her side. A funeral service will take place at 1:00pm, Monday, March 11, 2024, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services. Tucker Gidcumb to officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park cemetery. Velma's family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 11:00am until the time of service at 1:00pm. Velma was born in Watersmeet, Michigan, on March 11, 1935, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hilding and Mattie (Peacock) Anderson. Educated in the Upper Peninsula, Velma graduated from Bergland High School with the Class of 1953. On February 4, 1955, Velma married the love of her life, Harry Gidcumb. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 26, 1998. Velma worked for General Motors as a press operator until her retirement in 2008. Velma always tried to save money any way she was able to and loved a good rummage sale or flea market as well as clipping coupons. Whenever she was able, Velma enjoyed traveling back to her hometown in the U.P. to visit family and friends. She loved her family, especially her grandchildren and she rarely missed a game. She was always up for a good game of Scrabble, Canasta, and Rook, or playing Wordscapes on her tablet. Velma enjoyed going out to lunch with her niece and watching DIY shows and Judge Judy. She will be dearly missed.
Left to cherish Velma's memory are her children: Harry "Bob" and wife, Marycatherine Gidcumb, Dwayne Gidcumb, Laurie Gidcumb; grandchildren: Brianne, Kallie, Stephen, Tucker and wife, Ashley, Cady and husband, Alexander, Keegan and wife, Abigail; great-grandchildren: Laila, Cadence, Nina, Mattie, Thomas, Alyana; brother, Shirley "Pix" Anderson; special niece, Connie Kalfs; several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harry; her parents; siblings: William Anderson, Marion Moore, John Anderson, Albin Anderson; son Edward "Joe" Gidcumb, grandson, Daniel.
