Obituary of Shirley M. Smith
Age 91, of Traverse City, passed away Sunday, April 30, 2023, in Orchard Creek Senior Living. A celebration of life will take place at 12:30 pm on May 5, 2023, at Martin Funeral, Cremation, and Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, MI. Shirley's family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 am to the time of the service. Those that desire may make donations to the American Heart Association. She was born in Flint on July 14, 1931, the daughter of Mr. Lloyd and Mrs. Lelah Casey DeArcy. Shirley was educated in Mt. Morris Schools, graduating with the class of 1949. She married the love of her life and High School Sweetheart, George, on October 20, 1951, and were best friends for 71 years. She worked as a secretary for the Mt. Morris High School Principal for many years. Shirley then worked with George on a Manufacturing line for AC Spark Plug, retiring together on June 1, 1987. Shirley enjoyed traveling to Hawaii and Mesa, Arizona with her husband. Shirley was a loving mother that enjoyed working in her flower gardens. She also loved cooking and writing letters to friends and family. Shirley enjoyed line dancing when she was able.
Shirley is survived by her daughter: Pamela Smith and husband Gerald Griffus; grandchildren: Wendy and husband Steve Sigourney, Daniel and wife Stephanie Smith, Amy and husband Greg Smith-Hath; great-grandchildren, Garrett, Peyton, Gracyn, Andrew, Madilyn; and great-great-grandchild, Lyela.
She was preceded in death by her husband, George; parents; son: Craig Smith: and sister Sharon MacDonald.
