Age 78, of Harbor Springs and formerly of Frankenmuth, passed away with her family at her side on Oct. 22, 2021, at Pineview Cottage in Harbor Springs. The funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 30, 2021, at St. Lorenz Lutheran Church in Frankenmuth. The service will be live-streamed on the church’s website, stlorenzlutheran.org/media. Joyce's family will be present to receive friends at the church from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm; with burial to follow at St. Lorenz Lutheran Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy and donations may be made by visiting Joyce's tribute page on martinfuneralhome.com.

Joyce was born on May 26, 1943, in Saginaw to Edward Wenzel and Lucille (Decker) Wenzel. She spent part of her childhood growing up on the family farm near Mount Pleasant, but the family later moved to Saginaw where she graduated from Arthur Hill High School in 1961. After high school, she took classes at Delta College, became a licensed radiological technician, and went on to work in that capacity at Saginaw General Hospital. On Oct. 1, 1966, she married Marvin Zucker of Frankenmuth at Peace Lutheran Church in Saginaw. In 1970, Marvin became the manager and part-owner of Cederberg-Zucker Funeral Home of Frankenmuth and the couple moved into the residence at the funeral home. Joyce continued working as an x-ray technician until the birth of the couple’s son, Stephen, in 1971. Joyce was active in Jaycees and for many years bowled on two different leagues. She enjoyed sewing, crafts, spending summer vacations at her parents’ cottage on Grand Lake, and camping with friends. She also enjoyed traveling, going on shopping, and casino outings with her sister and friends. She loved cats, lighthouses, and watching classic movies.

Joyce returned to the workforce later in life, at first as an x-ray technician and then as a sales associate at the Bavarian Inn gift shop. Although her health limited her activities in recent years, she still enjoyed playing cards, ice cream treats, and spending time with the new friends she made.

Joyce is survived by her son Stephen (Erin) Zucker and granddaughters Kathryn Zucker and Anna Zucker, all of Petoskey; brother-in-law Gary (Mary) Zucker, of St. Louis, Mo.; niece Diane (Roger) Daenzer of Vassar; nephews The Rev. Tyge (Denys) Zucker of Red Wing, Minn., and Jason (Heather) Zucker of Seattle, Wash.; great-nephews and niece Gabe, Garrett, Bryan, Zachary, Ayla, and Zevin. She was preceded in death by her husband Marvin, her sister Dorothy Wenzel and nephew Neil Neuenfeldt.

Those wishing a memorial contribution in Joyce’s name may wish to consider the Charlevoix Area Humane Society.

Joyce’s family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Pineview Cottage for the excellent, compassionate care they provided for her.

Joyce's obituary was lovingly written by her family.
