Obituary of Betty Jane Phillips
Age 100, of Genesee, died at her home on Friday, October 11, 2019. The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, October 15, 2019, at Martin Funeral Cremation and Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Rev Karen Williams will officiate, with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park. Betty’s family will receive friends at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, on Tuesday from 10:30 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations may be directed to the Genesee United Methodist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
Betty was born on April 26, 1919, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Edward and Bertha (Sager) Goff. Raised in Mt. Morris, Betty was educated locally, graduating in 1937 as the salutatorian of her class. She and George Phillips were united in marriage on July 1, 1939. Together, Betty and George owned and operated Phillips Hardware in Genesee for 30 years. Betty was a long-time member of Genesee United Methodist Church, was active with the Lioness of Genesee, and enjoyed shopping, especially at craft shows, crocheting, sewing, and traveling. She also had many beloved dogs that she liked to spoil, especially Preston and Paris.
Betty leaves to cherish her memory son, Robbin and wife Lynda Phillips; grandchildren: Melanie Phillips, Steven and wife, Tammy Byrd, Theresa Byrd, and Tim Miller, and Roxanne Phillips, and David Stackable; great-grandchildren Chelsea, Dallas-Anne, and Bryce; and several great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, George; and several brothers and sisters.
