Obituary of Virginia P. Kirk

Passed away Sunday, April 6, 2008, at the age of 92. Virginia was born January 1, 1916 in Traverse City, Michigan, the daughter of Fred H. & Ruth A. (Baldwin) Pierson. She married W. Alan Kirk in East Lansing, Michigan on October 11, 1941: they subsequently moved to the Kirk home farm in Fairgrove. Alan preceded Virginia in death on August 2, 1992. During their life together they enjoyed several trips abroad, as well as spending their winters in Bradenton, Florida. Virginia attended Kalamazoo College and went on to graduate from Michigan State University. In 1939, she worked for the Farm Security Administration as Home Management Supervisor out of Bellaire, Michigan where she covered the Northern Counties. Virginia was also employed by the Tuscola County Probate Court as a caseworker for many years before retirement. She was a 4-H leader for many years, a member of the 4-H council, and also a member of the Caro Garden Club. She was lifetime member of the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church and its Faith Circle and was an affiliate member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church in Bradenton, Florida. She enjoyed her morning swims in Florida, playing cards, games, camping, and various hobbies. She loved the beauty of nature and enjoyed working many hours in her flower beds and yard. Virginia was a family person, and will be greatly missed by her three children and their spouses: Bill and Linda Kirk, Barbara and Dick Prime of Fairgrove, and Suzanne Kirk of Saginaw. Her five grandchildren and their spouses: Theresa and Tim Timko of Caro, Lisa and Jim Chrysler of Hemlock, Paula and Pat Hozza of Scottsdale, Arizona, Margee and Roger Keoshian of Saginaw, and Matthew Kirk of Fairgrove; her eight great-grandchildren: Nick and Bren Timko, Nathan, Jessica, Adam and Madeline Chrysler, and Andrea and Alyssa Keoshian ; and a sister-in-law, Marie Pierson of Jackson. Virginia was preceded in death by two brothers: Rexford Pierson and Garth Pierson. Funeral service will take place 11:00 A.M., Thursday, April 10, 2008 , at the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church. Pastor Rich Lawther will officiate with burial to follow in Brookside Cemetery. VirginiaAaas family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove on Wednesday from 2:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. On Thursday morning, Virginia will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at 11:00 A.M. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, Habitat for Humanity, or Make-A-Wish Foundation. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. VirginiaAaas family would like to thank the caring staff at Select Specialty Care in Saginaw for three months of wonderful care for our mother during her lengthy struggle to return to health after surgery, and also to the caring staffs at Tendercare in Cass City and the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility.
