Katherine Janson (Opperman) Beloved mother and grandmother passed away Tuesday, May 13 at her home with her family near her side. Katie, 88 years old, was born January 25th, 1920 in Vassar, Michigan the daughter of Michael and Catherine (Yenish) Amend. Katie married Carl Sinclair Opperman in February, 1941. He preceded her in death in 1974. She later married Donald Janson of Reese in December of 1982. He preceded her in death in 1993. Katie is survived by her five children, daughters Patricia and husband Max Mason of Reese, Beverly Prescott of Harrison, Linda Martin of Essexville, sons Jack Sr. and Wanda Opperman of Vassar, Gary & Pam Opperman of Vassar, seventeen grandchildren, thirty-two great grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren. Katie was preceded in death by her parents, husbands Carl Opperman and Donald Janson, granddaughter Janette Opperman, son-in-law Dr. Duane AaA"DeweyAaA Martin, sisters Anna Ludecke, Grace Radina, brothers Tony, John, Paul, Michael, Conrad, and Frank Amend. The family wishes to thank her longtime caregiver Annette Gotham and Heartland Hospice for the excellent care given to Katie. Friends and family may call at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Friday, May 16th between 12:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. Funeral service will take place at St. MichaelAaas Lutheran Church in Richville on Saturday, May 17 at 11:00 A.M. Pastor Wesley Gillaspie will officiate with interment in VassarAaas Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those planning an expression of sympathy may consider St. MichaelAaas Lutheran Church, Heartland Hospice, or the Vassar Masonic LodgeAaas Vassar High Scholarship Fund.
