Obituary of Charles E. Gohsman

Please share a memory of Charles to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Charles Edward Gohsman went to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 22. His friends and family will always remember his sense of humor and the tales, some of them tall, of growing up in Millersburg and Vassar, as well as his experiences in the United States Air Force. He was currently serving as President of the 51st Fighter Interceptor Wing Association. We will also remember his great devotion to our mother Helen, almost never leaving her side during her lengthy illness and long hospitalization before her death five years ago. Chuck was born in Millersburg, MI on June 8, 1931, the second son of Harvey and Dorothy (McKee) Gohsman. His brothers Gerald, James, John, Richard and Dwight all predeceased him, as did his parents. He graduated from Vassar High School in 1950 and enlisted in the United States Air Force shortly after graduation, serving in Korea and Japan during the Korean War, rising to the rank of Airman First Class. After receiving his honorable discharge, he attended Central Michigan University and earned a B.S. in Industrial Education and an M.S. in Education. He taught woodworking and mechanical drawing at several school systems in Michigan, retiring from Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools after many years of service. His hobbies included woodworking, traveling, fishing, reading and following the exploits of the MSU Spartans. He married Helen Marie Luecke in 1955. She left this earth in June 2003. He is survived by one son, Terry Gohsman and wife Robyn of Williamsburg, VA, and three daughters: Karen (Gohsman) Oprea and husband Jerry of Allentown, PA; Gretchen Gohsman and partner Chris Boyd of Vassar; and Marlene Gohsman of Battle Creek. Also surviving him are 4 grandchildren: Kari (Oprea) Remaley, Christopher Oprea, Andrew Oprea and Travis Gohsman; and one sister, Nancy Miller of Mayville. A memorial service will be held at First Presbyterian Church of Vassar on Thursday, June 26 at noon, with visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. The service will be followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church of Vassar, The City Rescue Mission of Saginaw, or MichiganAaas Own Inc. Military & Space Museum in Frankenmuth.
