Obituary of Matthew Francis Whalen

Of Mt. Morris, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 26, 2010. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 1, 2010 at 11:00am at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris; Rev Fr. Gary McInnis will officiate. Family will receive friends at Miles Martin Funeral Home on Saturday from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, and Sunday from 1:00pm to 8:00pm. Sunday evening, family and friends will gather at the funeral home to pray the Rosary at 7:00pm. On Monday morning, Matt will be taken to church, where he will lie in state from 10:00am until time of Mass at 11:00am. Cremation will follow. Memorial donations may be considered to a family fund. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Matt was born June 29, 1990 in Flint, Michigan the son of Mark and Donna (Reuther) Whalen. He was a 2009 graduate of Mt. Morris High School and currently enrolled at University of Michigan Flint. Matt was also a student at the Flint Institute of Arts. Matt leaves to cherish his memory his father Mark Whalen, mother, Donna Whalen, twin brother, Michael, two sisters, Susan, and Julie, grandmothers, Arlene Whalen, and Colette Reuther, special friend Courtney Tarrants, and many special aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his grandfathers Francis Whalen and Donald Reuther.
