Obituary of Walter Gerrard

Of Mt. Morris, age 83, died Thursday, November 13, 2008 at Maple Woods Manor in Clio. The funeral service will take place 11:00am Monday, November 17, 2008 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Pastor David Burkett will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. WalterAaas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 1:00pm until 7:00pm and again on Monday from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the Mt. Morris United Brethren Church in Christ. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Walter was born July 2, 1925 in Detroit, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John and Katherine (Shelley) Gerrard. He and Flora Teachout were united in marriage on February 11, 1961. He was a Veteran of Foreign Wars serving as a Gunner 3rd Class in the United States Navy during World War II. Walter worked for Detroit Edison for 40 years and was a member of the UAW #223. He enjoyed wood crafting and just plain hard work. He was a church volunteer, serving on the board, being a trustee and ushering on occasion. Walter leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Flora; brother, Jess and wife Vivian Gerrard; special sister-in-law, Mary Papp; also a brother-in-law and two more sisters-in-law, as well as many nieces, nephews and their families. Walter was predeceased by his parents, along with a brother and a sister.
