Of Vassar, age 74, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at his home. The Memorial Service will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, February 10, 2010, at St. Lukes Lutheran Church in Vassar. Pastor James Plocher will officiate. Cremation has taken place. Family will be present to receive friends at the church on Wednesday 10:00am until time of service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be considered to the St.Lukes Lutheran Church in Vassar, Diabetes Association or charity of your choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. James was born November 7, 1935 in Saginaw, Michigan the son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur and Margarete (Reittenbach) Williams. James was a graduate of Vassar High School, Class of 1954. He and Diane Harper were united in marriage September 5, 1996 in Las Vegas, Nevada. James worked at Saginaw Steering Gear for 10 years. He owned and operated the Pure Oil Service Station in Vassar for many years including, Union 76, Standard and Amaco. Surviving are his wife, Diane Williams of Vassar; two daughters, Christie and husband Larry Stevens of Vassar and Cynthia Williams of Flint; grandchildren, Brandon Stevens, Kara Stevens, Charles Jones III, Kandice Jones and Nicholas Jones; great-grandchild, Natalie Jones; brothers, Robert and wife Sharon Williams, David and Ambra Williams; sister, Ruth Ann and husband Barry Mays all of Vassar; several special nephews and nieces; former wife and mother of his children, Judith Ann Strauss. He was preceded in death by his parents Arthur and Margarete (Reittenbach) Williams and nephew Don Williams.
