Of Mt. Morris, age 71, died Friday, June 12, 2009 at McLaren Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will take place 11:00am, Friday, June 19, 2009 at the Trinity Assembly of God in Mt. Morris. Pastor Carl Halquist , Pastor Larry Alverson, Pastor Kenneth Williams and Pastor Shabazz will officiate. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park with Graveside Military. JamesAaa family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home on Thursday from 5:00pm to 7:00pm. On Friday morning, James will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00am until the time of service at 11:00am. James was born August 22, 1937 in Chattanooga, Tennessee the son of Robert and Letha Derrick. He and Sally Derrick were united in marriage February 12, 1973. James was honorably discharged from the US Army after serving two terms. He graduated from U of M, Flint with a BachelorAaas Degree in Social Work, was employed by and retired from GM after 30 years of service in 1996, was on the Mt. Morris Township Zoning Board for 9 years and was very active as an elder and minister at the New City of Hope Church in Flint. Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sally, two sons; Joseph and Martin Derrick, six grandchildren; Vincent, Tiana, Jasmine, Isiah, Madison and Myles, two brothers and a sister; Robert and wife Sandy Middlebrooks, Cheryl Middlebrooks, Rueben and wife Regina Middlebrooks, special friends; Elizabeth, Barbara and Sandra, numerous niece, nephews, cousins and friends. James was preceded in death by his parents; Robert and Letha Derrick, and three brothers; Rufus, Donald and Tommy.
