Of Mt. Morris, age 82, died Thursday, April 15, 2010 at home. The funeral service will take place 11:00am, Monday, April 19, 2010 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris. Mr. Vernon Lawrence will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Graveside Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post # 158 Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday, from 5:00pm to 8:00pm, Sunday, 12:00noon to 8:00pm, and Monday from 10;00am until time of service at 11:00am. John was born February 29, 1928 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas and Dorothy (Swartwood) Tait. He and Joyce Cox were united in marriage August 29, 1949, in Indiana. John proudly served his country in the United States Navy, during World War II. He began his career as a fireman, where he shoveled coal, for the railroad, and went on to become a Certified Locomotive Engineer. He worked for Grand Trunk Western Railroad for 42 years, retiring in 1993. John was a member of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers, the Ameican Legion # 158, and the VFW # 1452 John leaves to cherish his memory,his wife of 60 years Joyce, son David and wife Dawn Tait, three grandsons, David, John, and fiance Rachel, and Michael, and granddaughter, Yosha, three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Jager, and Jada, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, and son Tommy.
