Of Flint, age 65, lost her long battle with cancer, Wednesday, April 21, 2010 surrounded by loved ones at home. The funeral service will take place 1:00pm, Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. EdithAaas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 3:00pm to 8:00pm. On Friday, from 10:00am to 2:00pm, and again from 4:00pm to 8:00pm. Then on Saturday, from 10:00am until time of service at 1:00pm. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Edith was born January 31, 1945 in Flint, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Marie (St. George) Stevens. She and Jack Byrd were united in marriage January 31, 1969 in Flint. He preceded her in death October 13, 2009. Edith dedicated herself to the Flint Board of Education for 25 years before retiring from McKinley Middle School as the cafeteria manager in 2005. In her free time, Edith enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, cooking, gardening and reading books. EdithAaas life long dream was to go to Disney World, she was able to full fill that dream in March. Edith leaves to cherish her memory, two daughters, Lisa Marie and Laura Anne and husband, David Pilkey; two sisters, Judy Stevens and Debbie (Richard) Schultz; best friend of 55 years, Becky Hodson; sister-in-law, Nancy Stevens; four brothers, George (Emily) Stevens, Charles (Sue) Stevens, John (Brenda) Stevens and Bob (Sandy) Stevens; special father, William "Pops" Meadows and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Marie Stevens, her husband of 41 years, Jack, her brother, Bill Stevens and special mother, Mary "MeeMaw" Meadows. The Family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff at McLaren Home Hospice.
