Obituary of Orville R. Herline

Of Vassar, age 86, died Saturday, July 11, 2009 at Covenant Health Care- Cooper in Saginaw. The funeral service will take place 1:00pm, Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Reverend David Somers will officiate. Burial to follow in Eastlawn Memorial Gardens with Graveside Military Honors conducted by the American Legion Post #164. LuckyAaas family will be present to receive friends on Monday from 2:00pm to 9:00pm. On Monday evening, family and friends will gather at the funeral home for an Eagles Memorial Service conducted by the Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380 at 7:00pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the CCC or the DAV. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Lucky was born October 9, 1922 in Bay City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick and Alice (Reynolds) Herline. He and Catherine M. Craft were united in marriage September 24, 1948. She preceded him in death February 26, 1999. He proudly served his country in the US Air Force during World War II for seven years and was a recipient of the Purple Heart prior to his honorable discharge. Lucky retired from Eaton Manufacturing after over 34 years of service as a machine repairman. He was a member of the VFW, the Vassar Eagles Aerie #2380 the Thumb Area MudRunners and the Civilian Conservation Corp. He loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. Left to cherish his memory are, his children; Alan and wife Marie Herline of Hale, Edward Herline of Genesee, Fritz and wife Terri Herline of Olivet, many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, brother, Clayton Willett of Glennie, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Orville was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Catherine, son, James Rayfiel Herline, and two brothers; Theodore and Cecil Herline.
