Obituary of Jean Louise Bittner

Of Vassar, age 94, died Monday, October 4, 2010 at University Hospitals in Ann Arbor. The funeral service will take place, 11:00am, Saturday, October 9, 2010 at the First Baptist Church of Vassar. Pastor Luke Traver will officiate with burial to follow in Riverside Cemetery, with graveside military honors. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Friday from 2:00pm to 8:00pm. On Saturday, Jean will be taken to the church where she will lie in state from 10:00am until time of service at 11:00am. Memorial contributions may be considered to the Gideon Bibles. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Jean was born April 7, 1916 in Standish, Michigan the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Laura (Wyatt) Wubbena. Jean served as a Second Lieutenant in the 166th General Hospital in France during World War II. She and Kenneth Bittner were united in marriage in France in December 1945. Jean worked for over 25 years for Dr. J.W.Manning in Saginaw. She enjoyed spending time with her family, gardening, traveling and volunteering. Jean leaves to cherish her memory three children, Theda and husband Donald Baslock, Ralph and wife Nancy Bittner, and Jacqueline and husband Larry Johnson, seven grandchildren, Jodi(James), Gina (Doug), Erin (Matt), Becky (Luke), Libby (Sean), Drew, and Laura (Justin), and twelve great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Kenneth, two sisters and two brothers.
