Obituary of Roxie Lea Casteel

Age 79, of Oscoda, passed away Tuesday, August 15, 2023, at McLaren Flint, with her family by her side. In accordance with Roxie’s wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of Life will take place at 1:00 pm, Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Oscoda United Methodist Church, 120 W. Dwight St., Oscoda, MI. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Roxie’s tribute wall at martinfuneralhome.com.

 

Roxie was born in Millersburg, Michigan, on August 22, 1943, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alfred and Ruth (Phelps) Walter. Educated locally, Roxie attended Kearsley High School. She worked for many years as a Meat Wrapper for Meijer until her retirement. Roxie was a very involved member of the Oscoda United Methodist Church. She was very generous and kind and was always willing to help anyone from the church or elsewhere that needed help. Roxie was also very active in her community and loved to play cards as well as was a member of several different groups including the Red Hatters and TOPS. In her younger years, Roxie enjoyed knitting and playing pool as well as bowling on a league for many years. Watching her children play sports, especially hockey, as they were growing up was her favorite pastime. She was a wonderful mother and never missed a game. Raising a sports family gave her a love for all sports including the Detroit Tigers, Detroit Lions, Detroit Red Wings, and University of Michigan Football, she rarely missed a game. Roxie was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and she enjoyed family get-togethers for every holiday where she could cook for her entire family. She was an amazing chef and baker and enjoyed making the entire meal and desserts for her family. She also looked forward to the annual family reunion where she could spend time with her entire family. In her free time, Roxie enjoyed planting in her flower beds and in her vegetable garden. She was well-loved by all who knew her, and she will be greatly missed.

 

Left to cherish Roxie's memory are her children: Cathy and husband, Brad Ouellette, David Endicott, Tony Endicott, Michael Endicott; grandchildren: Steve and wife, Karen, Justin and wife, Candice, Mikayla, Jake and wife, Lauren, Raenia and husband, Trent, Mark, Janell, Ashley; great-grandchildren: Charlie, Maddie, Easton, Averi, Clementine, Brendan, Evan, Annabelle, Lucille, Briley; sister: Rosemary and husband, Frank; niece Lori.                                                 

 

Roxie was preceded in death by her parents; children: Sharon Endicott-Whaley, and Todd Endicott; daughter-in-law, Renee McPhillips; grandson, Matt Lanter.
