Obituary of Bethany Jean Montney
Age 77, of Mt. Morris, died Monday, March 28, 2022, surrounded by her family. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Mt. Morris - Concelebrating: Fr. Roy Horning and Fr. Anthony Strouse. Beth will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am with the funeral mass at 11:00 am. Beth's family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Friday, April 8th, beginning at 6:30 pm family will have a Celebration of life service, with a Rosary Service immediately following at 7:00 pm. The family requests that everyone try to wear royal blue in honor of Beth’s love of Duke Basketball.
Beth was born April 22, 1944, in Flint, to Ernest and Norma Hering. She graduated from St. Mary’s, Mt. Morris in 1962. She attended a year of college at the University of South Carolina. She married John W. Montney on June 11, 1966. She worked as a Phlebotomist and Administrative Assistant at Ascension Genesys Hospital, retiring in 2013.
Beth, an avid Basketball fan (especially Duke University), was a truly caring human being who exemplified selflessness and was a devoted and beloved Sister, Mother, Grandma, and Aunt Bets.
She is survived by her husband, John; two children: John Charles Montney and Lisa (Hawk) Kennedy; three grandchildren: Johnny (Breanna) Barnett, Jaycie Montney, and Jacob (Allison Costello) Montney; and two great-grandchildren: Bowen and Wilder Barnett; sister Rita Harris; special grand-niece, Angela Bellant; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Charles Hering; two children: Carol Lynn and Michelle Marie Montney; great-granddaughter, Meadow Rayne; and best friend, Carol.
