Obituary of Susan Marie Vara
Age 69, of Flint, died Wednesday, October 20, 2021, at home with her family by her side. In accordance with Susan’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Susan was born in Flint on September 11, 1952, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William and Geraldine Marie (Settlemire) Callahan. Educated locally, Susan attended St. Mary Catholic School, graduating with the Class of 1970. She went on to further her education by attending Mott Community College and attained her associate degree in applied science. In grade school, Susan met Stephen Vara. The two would begin to date when they were older, fell in love and were united in marriage. Their union would be blessed with one son. Sadly, Stephen preceded her in death in 1979. Susan worked for the American Red Cross for many years until taking on a new position at Allied Health as a home health aide. She was a wonderful caregiver and enjoyed taking care of others. Susan attended church regularly and read her Bible every day. She loved to be outside working in her yard and doing things outside. Susan spent much of her time going Up North to the Tawas area visiting her family. She loved to talk and was a very social person who loved to spend time with her friends and grandson. Susan was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed traveling and lived in many different places. In her free time, Susan could be found reading, cooking, and just being around the people that she loved.
Left to cherish Susan’s memory are her son, Paul Vara; grandson, Liam Vara; siblings: Kathleen Callahan, Michael and wife, Marie Callahan, Marianne and husband, Jeff Sanders; several, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Susan was preceded in death by her loving husband, Steven; her parents; siblings: Greg Callahan, Bob Callahan, Gerry Callahan, Sherry Girard, Colleen Glover.
