Of Flint, age 82, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at his home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, November 11, 2011, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Rev. Raymond Strawser will officiate with private burial to follow in Sunset Hills Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm and on Friday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to the American Cancer Society. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. James was born September 14, 1929, in Monroe, North Carolina, the son of Mr. and Mrs. James and Inez (Fur) Howie. James proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict; where he was awarded the Purple Heart. He and Eva Marie DeRosier were united in marriage August 6, 1976, in Flint. He worked for GM SPO for 37.5 years, until his retirement. Left to cherish his memory are three step-children, Doris B. Tanner of Michigan, Richard F. and wife, Cheryl Salazar of Michigan and Frank P. and wife, Susan Busnardo of Michigan; numerous grandchildren; great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews and friends.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Eva, two step-daughters, Maria Nord and Rosemarie Busnardo; step-son, Gino Busnardo, fives sisters and two brothers.
