Obituary of Shirley Westphal

Of Flint, age 78, died Sunday, November 13, 2011, at McLaren Regional Medical Center. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, November 18, 2011, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Craig Dockery will officiate with burial to follow in Crestwood Memorial Gardens. The family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, 12:00 noon until 8:00 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Mesothelioma Cancer Research or Salvation Army. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Shirley was born October 21, 1933, in Sandusky, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland and Mary (Caughel) Westphal. Shirley was witty and had a good sense of humor. She had words of wisdom for everyone to live by. Shirley was artistic and enjoyed painting and drawing. She will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory are six children, Calvin Hoover, Mura and husband, John Klopf, Herb and wife, Sherry Hoover, Sandra and husband, Marvin Ostrander, Gerald and wife, Brenda Hoover and Michael Hoover; 12 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Beulah and husband, Robert Johnston; step-sister, Lillian Frazier; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; former husband, Herbert Hoover; son, Charles Hoover; and step-sister, Myrtle Smith.
