Obituary of Shirley West

Of Clio, age 65, died Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at home. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Saturday, February 4, 2012, at the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Pastor Mike Sanders will officiate with cremation to follow. Private burial will take place at a later date. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Saturday, Shirley will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial donations may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church.

Shirley was born April 23, 1946, in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John and Edith (Bradley) Gibson. She and Harold West were united in marriage July 13, 1974. Over the years, Shirley cared for many children in her home. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Morris, where she was often seen volunteering with children.

Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, husband, Harold; two sons, Gary and wife, Shawn West and Daniel and wife, Lauren West; four grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Caleb, Makayla and Briellen; sister, Marilyn and husband, Jim Combs; sister-in-law, Barbel Gibson; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Gerald Gibson. Shirley will be greatly missed by her family and friends; especially her grandchildren.
