Obituary of Sandra Kay Smith

Of Vassar, age 67, died Monday, April 23, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center - Harrison. The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, April 27, 2012, at the Tuscola Community Church in Tuscola. Pastor Greg Shepherd will officiate with burial to follow in Tuscola Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Thursday, from 2:00 pm to 8:00 pm. On Friday, Sandra will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Tuscola Community Church, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation or The American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Sandra was born March 19, 1945, in Flint, Michigan, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey and Mary (Bortner) Moody. She and Richard Smith were united in marriage July 22, 1961. She was an active member of Tuscola Community Church and enjoyed spending time with her family, traveling and gardening. Left to cherish her memory are two children, Molly Smith Volz, and Steve and wife, Cindy Smith; five grandchildren, Erin, Andrew and Alex Volz; Jonathan and Ashlyn Smith; brothers, Bob and wife, Jean Bortner, Jim Moody, Mike and wife, Bev Moody and Dean and wife, Jaynie Moody; and sister, Mona and husband, Harry Smith; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
