Obituary of Orson Charles Petteys

Of Flint, age 98, died Thursday, May 24, 2012, at Sunrise Manor in Cincinnati. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service will be held at 1:00pm, Saturday, June 2, 2012, at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris, with burial to follow in West Vienna Township Cemetery. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday from 11:00 am until time of service 1:00 pm. Memorial contributions may be considered to the Charity of Choice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Orson was born August 18, 1913, in Flint, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard and Ida (Avery) Petteys. He and Florence Johnson were united in marriage on November 10, 1934, in Flint; she preceded him in death. He worked for Fisher Body and was one of the original Sit Down Strikers in 1937. Orson served on the Flint Fire Department for 25 years, retiring as a Captain in 1966. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II and Korea. He was a member of URGE, and former member of Hubbard Lake Hunting Club. Orson enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling. His influence and memory will live long through lives he touched. Surviving are two children, Mary Jo and husband, Robert Arnold of Cincinnati and Will Petteys, of Flint; three grandchildren, Susan Arnold and Hugh Haagen, of Cincinnati, David and wife, Phyllis Arnold, of Phoenix, and Tom and wife, Tricia Arnold of Lake Orion; five great-grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren.
