Obituary of Kathleen Elizabeth Cottom

Age 68, of Mt. Morris, passed away Wednesday, September 14, 2022, at McLaren Flint. In accordance with Kathleen’s wishes, cremation has taken place. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Kathleen’s tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com.

 

Kathleen was born in Berkeley, CA on April 1, 1954, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl, Jr., and Elizabeth (Richardson) Kern. She obtained her bachelor's degree in Science from Walden University. She worked as a teacher for most of her life. Her positions included Our Lady of Lourdes Eucharistic mister, Eucharistic bread maker, catechism teacher, and hospitality services, as well as the Saint Elizabeth School catechism teacher. Kathleen won Mother of the Year in Oakland, California, and won the Saint Catherine’s Medal of the Catholic Dioceses Arch Diocese of Oakland. She also was involved in the Girl and Boy Scouts of America and a member of the National Catholic Church Community. In her free time, Kathleen enjoyed traveling, family gatherings and reunions, family games, reading books, playing with her kids and grandkids, and listening to music. She will be greatly missed.

 

Left to cherish Kathleen's memory is her significant other, Marc Gauze; children: Monique McGovern, Nicole Cottom, Michael Cottom, Catherine Breeden, Danielle Cottom, Ashley and husband, Victor Simmiolkjier, Christopher Cottom; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Carl Kern, III, Leslie and husband, Gerard Falzone; ex-husband, Charles Cottom; several nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

                                             

Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents; son, Anthony Cottom; granddaughter, Samantha McGovern; brother, Michael Kern.
