Velma “Kay” was born in Dexter, MO, on November 1, 1925, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harley and Marie (Sting) Miley. Educated locally, Kay graduated from Flint Central High School with the Class of 1943. She started dating her high school sweetheart, Thomas Poe, and the two fell in love and were united in marriage on May 28, 1945, at the Court Street United Methodist Church Parsonage. Their union would be blessed with six beautiful children. Sadly, he preceded her in death on February 10, 2006. Kay worked as the School Secretary for the Beecher School District until her retirement in 1983. Kay loved to bake and make candy. She made the best pies. She was amazing at sewing and made many things. Kay also enjoyed quilting at her church with her friend. Working in her flower garden was one of her favorite pastimes. She even used her gift of gardening to plant and tend to the flowers at the United Methodist Church in Mt. Morris, where she has been a member for over 70 years. Kay enjoyed camping with her family and going fishing. Kay and her beloved husband went on many trips. She loved to travel and has traveled around the world. Every day, Kay would take a trip to Meijer, her favorite store, where she would meet up with her friends and have her favorite nutty donut and coffee. Kay loved her family and will be greatly missed.
