Obituary of Margaret Marie Phillips
Margaret Marie (Jennings) Phillips passed away peacefully on May 15, 2022, at the age of 92. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, May 20, 2022, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Vassar. Rev. Fr. Christian Tabares to officiate, with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery. Margaret’s family will be present to receive friends from 11:00 am until the time if service at 1:00 pm. Margaret was born July 31, 1929, to Lester and Odelia Jennings in Michigan. Margaret was known by many names – Marge, Mum, Grandma, Great-Grandma. She was helpful, kind and a supporting rock to all who needed it. She was a schoolteacher, educating generations of children in Detroit, Royal Oak, Vassar, and more. Marge fell in love with the charm and lifestyle in Vassar, and in 1996 she moved there to enjoy her retirement. She created a haven for her children and grandchildren to visit and enjoy local activities like canoeing, visits to the apple orchard, and the Vassar Riverfest. Going “up to grandma’s” became a hallmark of school holidays and summer breaks, where the grandkids could gather, play, and enjoy growing up together. She was always there to support anyone who needed help, without needing to be asked, and sometimes insisting on herself. Marge was a loving soul and will be dearly missed.
Marge is survived by her children: Barbara, Sandra, Steven, Nancy and Michael; her grandchildren: Robert (Katie), Donald, Kevin (Lindsay), Candace, and Holly; and her great-grandchildren: Alex & Charlie and Adelyn and Luke.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Linda, and grandson, Michael Raymond II, as well as siblings: Rose Gundy and Raymond Jennings.
