William was born in Flint on April 30, 1943, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph and Elsie (Henry) Carah. William was raised and educated locally in Genesee County before heeding the call to serve his country in the United States Army as a Prolonged Field Care Medic during the Vietnam War until his honorable discharge in September of 1968. Upon his return to civilian life, William went on to obtain his Master's Degree in Social Work. William worked for Genesee County Probate Court until his retirement in 1993. As a young man, William was set up on a blind date with the beautiful Valerie Pinney, and they played monopoly into the early hours of the morning. The two dated, fell in love, and were united in marriage on March 25, 1978. William enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping in the Upper Peninsula by Tahquamenon Falls, Houghton, and in Harrisville. He loved exploring the mines up north. In his free time, William liked to read, watch the History channel, WWII history shows, and the show How It's Made. William was a quiet person, who got along with everyone. He loved spending time with his family.

Left to cherish William’s memory is his loving wife: Valerie Carah; children: Joseph and wife, Maria Carah, Jonathan and wife, Katherine Carah, Jacob Carah; grandchildren: Jameson, Quinn, Harrison, Delaney, Lincoln, and Theodore; several nieces, nephews, and friends; his beloved dogs: Gordy and Riley.
