Obituary of Roma Lee Campbell

Please share a memory of Roma to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

COVID-19 UPDATE: With the recent guidelines limiting the number of people to less than 50 at any gathering, we are asking that you consider other ways to help support family and friends during this difficult time as an alternative to attending a visitation or funeral.

Roma Lee Campbell of Fairgrove went to be with the Lord on Friday, November 13, 2020, on her 89th birthday.  She passed peacefully at home with her family at her side. A private committal service will take place at Brookside Cemetery in Fairgrove with Pastor Philomena Ofori-Nipaah officiating.  A memorial service for extended family and friends is planned for the Spring of 2021.  Memorial contributions in Roma’s name may be considered to Fairgrove Presbyterian Church, Bay Shore Camp, or Campbell Family Discretionary Fund. Expressions of sympathy may be placed on Roma Lee's tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com.

Roma Lee was born on November 13, 1931, to Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph and Mary (Davison) Humm of Fairgrove. Educated locally, she was a graduate of Fairgrove High School and married her high school sweetheart, Thane Campbell, on February 27, 1954. Although raised in the Evangelical United Brethren Church, following her marriage, she began attending the Fairgrove Presbyterian Church.  She became a lifelong, active member of the congregation, faithfully serving as church treasurer for over 50 years.  She also shared her love of music by serving as a church organist, pianist, and choir director.  Roma Lee will be remembered by many as a gifted piano player and vocalist. She provided music for countless weddings and funerals, taught piano lessons in her home, and was the pianist for Community Hymn Sings for 72 years.  In addition to being a loving wife and mother, Roma Lee worked at State Savings Bank, Fairgrove (Chemical Bank) for 30 years, starting as Assistant Cashier and retiring as Branch Manager in 1997.  She was an active member of the Fairgrove Lion's Club, the Fairgrove Alumni Association, and the "Forget-Me-Nots."  She loved to cook and was famous at family gatherings for her baked beans, macaroni and cheese, and apple pie, and there was always a ready supply of her delicious chocolate chip cookies in the freezer.  Roma Lee had a generous, caring spirit and shared her faith through acts of love and kindness to others.  She was a source of strength and inspiration to her family as she demonstrated unconditional love, encouragement, and forgiveness.

Roma Lee leaves to cherish her memory one daughter: Denise and husband, John McQuillan; one son: Keith Campbell; four grandsons, Aaron Sanback, Justin (Allison) Campbell, Craig Campbell, and Evan Campbell; great-grandchildren, Brendan Sanback, Vincente (Sanback) Brabo and Isabella Sanback, Saige and Rhett Campbell;  sister: Mary Alice Pike; and many nieces and nephews

Roma Lee was preceded in death by her husband: Thane Campbell; parents:  Rudolph and Mary (Davison) Humm; a son: Terry Campbell; two grandchildren: Samantha Campbell and Joshua Sanback; and siblings: Maxine Hearl, Harold Humm, Hazel Crawford, and Dorothy Frodsham.
