Obituary of Scarlett Lee Conklin

Please share a memory of Scarlett to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

COVID-19 UPDATE: With the recent guidelines limiting the number of people to less than 10 at any gathering, we are asking that you consider other ways to help support family and friends during this difficult time as an alternative to attending a visitation or funeral.

Age 73, of Flushing, died on Friday, May 22, 2020, at her home, surrounded by her family. In accordance with Scarlett’s wishes, cremation has taken place, and a private burial will be held at a later date at Sunset Hills. Please visit Scarlett’s tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com.

Scarlett was born on August 18, 1946, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leland and Doris (Owings) Larsen. As a little girl, Scarlett’s family moved to Flint, so her dad could go to work for Buick. Educated locally, Scarlett attended Flint Community Schools, graduating from Flint Southwestern High School with the Class of 1964. Scarlett met Craig Conklin, a brother to her friend, Sherry, and it was love at first sight. The two began dating, fell in love, and were united in marriage on November 4, 1967, in Flint. In the early 1970’s Scarlett went to work at McLee’s Flower Basket in Clio, as a floral designer. In 1991, she and her husband Craig became the owners, until their retirement in 2001.

Family was an essential part of Scarlett’s life, keeping in touch with everyone. Scarlett was an avid dancer, taking tap and jazz and teaching clogging and line dancing at local senior centers.

Scarlett leaves to cherish her memory, her husband of 52 years, Craig; two sons: Rob Conklin and Chad Conklin and dearest friend, Rachel; step-son, Kevin, and wife, Tammy Thomas; sister, Alyce, and husband, Barry Cattrell; brother, Leland and wife, Michelle Larsen; brother-in-law, Brian and wife, Nicki Conklin; sisters-in-law: Judy Axtel and Sherry Brantley; and several nieces; nephews; and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and sister, Peggy Bouchard.
