Obituary of Deborah Sue Stakolosa

Age 61, of Vassar, died on Thursday, May 14, 2020, at Ascension St. Mary’s in Saginaw. A private funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 20, 2020, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Vassar. Pastor Michele Hile will officiate with burial to follow in Juniata Township Cemetery. Memorial donations may be directed to the family. Please visit Deborah’s tribute page at martinfuneralhome.com.

Deborah was born on August 17, 1958, in Cass City, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carter and Florence (Sternberg) Schad. She attended Caro High School, graduating with the Class of 1976.

Deborah married Gordon Stakolosa on May 26, 1979, at the United Brethren in Christ Church in Caro. She would later attend Saginaw Business Institute, obtaining her diploma in 1985. Deborah was a past employee at Highland Pines School in Caro and worked for Martin Funeral Home for 20 years. Deborah was a member of Vassar Women’s Life Chapter #857, Friends of the Bullard Sanford Memorial Library, and participated in the Great Start Tuscola’s Imagination Library. In 2010 she began attending Vassar First United Methodist Church. Deborah enjoyed crocheting afghans, reading mysteries, doing word puzzles, traveling, and spending time with her family.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Gordon Stakolosa; children: Florence and husband, James Booterbaugh and Mikayla Stakolosa; granddaughters: Abbigail and Olivia Bunkley; father, Carter, and wife, Joyce Schad; brothers and sisters: Daniel Schad, Douglas Schad, Dell Schad, and Deanna Schad; sisters-in-law: Mary Ann Stakolosa, Karen Metro, and Rose Fader; brother-in-law, Paul and wife, Cindy Stakolosa; niece, Stephanie, and son, Silas Schad; and many family members and friends.

Deborah was preceded in death by her mother, Florence Schad in 1997; and son Gordon Stakolosa Jr., in 2008; brothers-in-law, Ron Metro and Lee Fader; father and mother-in-law, John and June Stakolosa.
