Obituary of Ross Elton McAlister

Age 85, of Flint, died on Thursday, February 13, 2020. A funeral service will take place, 11:00 am, Saturday, February 22, 2020, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Ross' family will be present at the funeral home to receive visitors on Friday from 1:00 pm until 7:00 pm, and again on Saturday morning, from 10:00 am until the time of the service at 11:00 am. Pastor Kevin Dixson officiating with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. 

 

Ross was born in Dover, Arkansas, on August 19, 1934, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Alce and Annie (Ross) McAlister. Ross would heed the call of duty and be drafted in the United States Army, proudly serving during the Korean War, from January 13, 1954, until receiving his honorable discharge on January 12, 1956. Upon returning to civilian life, Ross would move to Michigan to begin working for General Motors; his career began at Fisher II Plant; from there, he transferred to Fisher Body in Grand Blanc and then to Buick where he would retire from in 1990. Ross was a long-time member of American Legion Post #64 and UAW Local #599. In his free time, Ross enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, small game hunting, fishing, going to flea markets, and reading Western, and John Grisham books. Ross was also a well-known comedian, Sam the Ham, and a self-taught musician that played the bass guitar and an acoustic guitar. He played in numerous bands and traveled across the United States, playing in countless concerts. Ross loved the color blue and enjoyed vacationing in Gatlinburg, Tennessee.

 

Left to cherish his memory are his five children: Ross David (Patricia) Darnell, Rossa Lynn McAlister, Danny Clay (Lori Ann) McAlister, Jeffery Allen (Mayra) McAlister, Amy Janet (Sam) Longoria; 15 grandchildren;  17 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

 

Preceded in death are his parents, four sisters: Georgia, Dolly, Lori, Florence, three brothers: Oliver, Arthur Lee, Bob; nephew & best friend, Jack.
