Obituary of Michael Dale Perry

Age 72, of Mt. Morris Township, died Sunday, October 13, 2019, at Ascension Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc, Michigan.  A Celebration of his life will take place at 11:00 am, Saturday, October 19, 2019, at Fellowship Baptist Church, 14046 N. Saginaw Rd, Clio, MI 48420. Pastor Darrel Manning to officiate. Mike’s family will be present at  Martin Funeral, Cremation, and Tribute Services, 1194 E. Mt. Morris Rd, MI 48458 to receive friends on Friday, October 18th  from 11:00 am until 8:00 pm.  Saturday morning, Mike will be taken to lie in state from 10:00 am until the time of service at 11:00 am at Fellowship Baptist Church.  Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the family fund.  Donations may be made through Mike’s memorial page at www.martinfuneralhome.com, or envelopes are available at the funeral home. 

Mike was born June 8, 1947, in Broseley, Missouri the son of Mr. and Mrs. Claude Blain and Ruth Ellen (Kime) Perry. Educated locally Mike graduated from Mount Morris High School in 1964.  He went on to work at various places, including; General Motors, JD’s Carpets, and owning Perry Signs and Grafix Company. However, his true love was coaching basketball.  Mike was a beloved basketball coach for 37 years in the Mount Morris School district. Mike was an active family man. On July 8, 1967, Mike would marry Barbara Hanak and raise three children in the Mount Morris community.  He was well known for his commitment to coaching and mentorship. Mike was recognized for his incredible artistic talent, contributing to many projects throughout the Flint community, including the 1979 restoration of the Vernors mural.  In his younger day’s Mike could be found racing or painting race cars at the Auto City Speedway. Compared to “MacGyver,” Mike could fix just about anything. In recent years, Mike enjoyed traveling with Barb to various Christian Gospel concerts, including 23 Christian cruises and spending time with his beloved church family.  He was a bright and fantastic spirit that will be missed. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 52 years, Barbara Perry; daughters: Jamie Hare, Kristina and husband Steve Princinsky, and Amanda Reed; grandchildren: Ashtyn, Tanner, and Austin Hare, Madison, Jacob, and Mikayla Princinsky, Lilliana Reed, and Carter Root; brother, Ronald Perry; nieces and nephews: Lisa Lamson, Toni Neurohr, Leslie Perry, Lauren Perry, Jody Meredith, and Hedi Alcodray; sister-in-law, Sandy Shriner, special cousins, Tim and Doris Shoens and family; special friends: Clyde and Freda Vaughn, Billy Ross, Brent Reno, Tray Pray Braham, Jeff and Sheri Easter, Stevie Perryman, Randy Long, many cousins, friends, coaches, and players throughout the years at Mount Morris High School. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sharon Kennedy; mother and father-in-law: Joe and Doris Hanak, and Lillian Burke.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the ICU nurses at Ascension Genesys for their compassionate care and support.
