Obituary of Monroe Charles Vreeland

Age 73, of Flushing, died, Monday, January 7, 2019, at McLaren Regional Hospital- Flint. In accordance with Monroe ’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be a memorial service at a later date. Those desiring may make memorial contributions to the Humane Society of Genesee County.

Monroe was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 17, 1945, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Horace and Margaret (Harris) Vreeland. He graduated from Bronson High School with the Class of 1963. After high school, Monroe answered the call of his country. He joined the US Navy in 1964, and proudly served in the Vietnam War. Upon his return to civilian life, Mo would be united in marriage to Elizabeth Jennings on January 6, 1968. He was married by his grandfather, who was a Justice of the Peace. Their union bore three beautiful children. He attended trade school to learn tool and die manufacturing. Mo was a retiree of GM, and he was an active member of the UAW Local #599. He was also a member of the Moose Lodge, the VFW, and the American Legion Post #283, Flushing. Mo was a huge sports fan. He could be found cheering on his beloved University of Michigan Wolverines, and the Red Wings.

Left to cherish his memory are: his loving wife Elizabeth “Libby” Vreeland; daughters: Susan “Sue” Vreeland, Lisa and husband, Peter Greve; son, Jeffery “Jeff” Vreeland; special friends: Mike and Nanette Jennings, Ken and Connie Jennings, Jerry and Loretta Hudson; beloved dogs: Yzerman, and Lady; and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Monroe was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Sandra Norton, Jeffery Vreeland, Byron Vreeland; son-in-law, Joseph Sanford.
