Obituary of Telford "Ted L. Proffer Jr.

Age 77, of Vassar, died Tuesday, August 19, 2014, at home surrounded by his family. The funeral service will take place Thursday, August 21, 2014, 1:00 pm, at Martin Funeral Home in Vassar. Pastor Christopher White will officiate with cremation to follow. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, from 10:00 am until time of service at 1:00 pm. Memorial donations may be directed to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, American Motorcycle Association or the National Rifle Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Ted was born in Flint, Michigan, on December 1, 1936, the son of Telford and Gertrude (Stoley) Proffer Sr. Ted and Grace Hess were united in marriage on December 10, 1954, in Indiana. Ted was employed at Super Foods/Nash Finch for many years before his retirement. He enjoyed riding and racing motorcycles, and belonged to many clubs, including Bulldog Riders of Millington, Great Lakes Dual Sporters and the American Motorcycle Association. Ted was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church. He was also a member of the NRA and the Richville Gun Club and enjoyed wintering in Arizona. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 59 years, Grace; three children, Tyre Proffer and wife, Linda Leach, Tobin Proffer, and Toni (Proffer) Roach and husband, Gary; two grandchildren, Nathan Leach-Proffer and fiancee, Becky DiOrio; and Anna Leach-Proffer and wife, Jenn Mullin; one great-granddaughter, Nora Proffer-Mullin; three sisters, Hilda Shantz, Esther Thomas and Ann Proffer; several nieces and nephews; and special friends, Brad and Ginger Barnes. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jim Proffer and sister, Sally Ewing.
