BAKER, Elion W. Of Vassar, age 89, went to be with the Lord Monday, February 15, 2010 at Tendercare in Frankenmuth . The funeral service will take place 11:00 am, Friday, February 19, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church in Vassar. Rev. William P. Sanders will officiate with burial to follow in Denmark Township Cemetery. Family will be present at the Martin Funeral Home to receive friends Thursday 3:00-5:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm. Those desiring, may direct memorial contributions to the First United Methodist Church of Vassar and Lutheran Home Health Care Hospice. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Elion was born December 18, 1920 in Vassar, MI the tenth child of Mr. and Mrs. Charles and Sarah (Houghtailing) Baker. He and his wife Helen (Reif) Baker were united in marriage June 14, 1941 in Saginaw. Elion worked at Weiss Equipment in Frankenmuth selling farm machinery. His hobbies included woodworking, selling farm machinery and helping people. Surviving are his wife Helen, two daughters, Janet Sue and husband Frank Going of Grand Rapids and Marjorie Baker of Vassar. Grandchildren, Brian Elion and wife Janine Going, Audra Sue and husband Kevin Hawley, Patrick and wife Jessica Dietzel and Amber Baker. Great grandchildren, Alex and Griffin Going, Ian and Katie Sue Hawley, David and Kyle Dietzel. Many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Charles W. and Sarah Jane (Houghtailing) Baker, two brothers and eight sisters.
