Obituary of Verne Francis Foether

age 85, of Flushing, died Wednesday, February 15, 2006 at Covenant Harrison in Saginaw, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 11:00am Saturday, February 18, 2006 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, Pastor David Burkett officiating with burial following in Flint Memorial Park. Verneas family will be present to receive friends at the funeral home from 4:00 pm- 9:00pm Thursday, 10:00am - 8:00pm Friday and 10:00am until time of the service at 11:00am on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Make A Wish Foundation. Verne was born November 6, 1920 in Detroit, Michigan son of Mr. & Mrs. Verne and Helen (Wright) Foether. He served in the United States Army during WWII. Upon his honorable discharge he and Phyllis Bailey were united in marriage on January 26, 1946 in Pontiac, Michigan and they soon moved to the Flint area. Verne and Phyllis co-founded the Genesee County Association of Retarded Children. He worked for the City of Flint as a Firefighter for twenty-five years retiring in 1971. He then worked at St. Joseph Hospital for ten years. Verne enjoyed watching birds, walking, bowling, woodworking and fishing with Phyllis. He loved being with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was a member of the American Legion Post #342, the VFW, and was one of the founders and member of the United Retired Government Employees (U.R.G.E). Left to cherish his memory are his 3 children, Kenneth Foether, Kirk and wife Mei Foether, Kathleen and husband Jim Caldwell; 4 grandchildren, Luan Foether, Amy Hopkinson, Philip and wife Angela Yurk, and Paul Jurk; 2 great-grandchildren, Brenden and Haley Hopkinson; two sisters, Eleanor Soper and Kaye and husband Dale Sigmon, brother Jerry and wife Kay Foether and brother-in-law Robert Rounds. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 59years Phyllis, Sister Lois Rounds and brother-in-law Stuart Soper.
