Obituary of Eugene R. Spencer

Age 73, of Caro, died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at the Caro Community Hospital. Eugene was born March 15, 1932 in Akron the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. Ernest and Thelma (Freeman) Spencer. He and Phyllis Westley were united in marriage September 1, 1956. She preceded him in death January 1, 1990. Early on in his life, Mr. Spencer worked for Grey Iron Foundry in Bay City and would go on to work in maintenance and grounds-keeping at the Rifle River Recreation Area State Park near Lupton. He and his wife were members of the former Fairgrove Church of the Nazarene and he was a member of the Moose Lodge No. 440 in Skidway Lake. Eugene loved to watch football and baseball.\ \ Left to cherish his memory are his children, Eugene Spencer, Jr. of Newaygo,\ Randy and wife Patty Spencer of Caro,\ And Laura Allen of Caro,\ 2 grandchildren,\ a great-grandson,\ 4 brothers and 3 sisters, William and wife Ida Spencer of Florida,\ Shirley and husband Andrew Goulder of Lake City,\ Barbara Montague of Skidway Lake,\ Caroline Ellis of Florida,\ Ernest, Jr. and wife Penny Spencer of West Branch,\ Roger and wife Sandy Spencer of Skidway Lake,\ And Terry and wife Karen Spencer of Skidway Lake,\ And many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.\ \ Eugene was preceded in death by his parents, wife Phyllis, son Michael Spencer, son-in-law Robert Allen and a brother, Virgil Spencer.\ \ A Tribute to Eugeneas life will take place 1:00 pm, Wednesday, February 22, 2006 at the Martin Funeral Home in Fairgrove. Mr. Andrew Goulder will officiate with burial to follow at Brookside Cemetery. His family will be present at the funeral home to receive friends on Wednesday morning from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Tuscola County Medical Care Facility, Alzheimeras Unit. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.\ \
