Of Mt. Morris, age 78, died Monday, September 4, 2006 at his home. Funeral services will be held 12:00 pm Friday, September 8 , 2006 at the Miles Martin Funeral Home in Mt. Morris, Pastor Lyle Davis officiating. Military honors will be provided by the Clio American Legion Post #158 with burial following in Great Lakes National Cemetery. Family will be present to receive friends from 4:00 pm - 9:00 pm Thursday and from 10:00 am until the time of service on Friday. Memorial contributions may be considered to the American Heart Association. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.\ \ Charles was born on September 3, 1928 in Pontiac, Michigan son of Mr. & Mrs. Charles D. and Parmelia L. (Burger) Townsend Sr. He was proud to be a veteran of the United States Army. Charles and Marilyn Caraway were united in marriage on December 16, 1950 in Pontiac, Michigan. He was employed by the Almont Community Hospital for several years until moving to the St. Helen area. Charles enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, cars and driving fast. Most of all he enjoyed his grandchildren and great grandchildren.\ \ Left to cherish Charlesa memory are his wife of 55years, Marilyn; five children, Charles D. III and wife Kathy Townsend , Robert Leroy and wife, Patricia Townsend, Ronald Lee Townsend, and Donna and husband, Ronald Reeves; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; five siblings, William C., Gloria A., Lawrence L., Mamie, and Ralph; several nieces and nephews and numerous friends.\ \ Charles was preceded in death by his parents and a stillborn daughter in 1955. \
