Of Mt. Morris, age 94, died Sunday, December 13, 2015, at Cranberry Park Memorial Care in Clio. The funeral service will take place 12:00 pm, Saturday, December 19, 2015 at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Genesee Twp. Rev. Harold Polk to officiate. Burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park with graveside military honors conducted by the Marine Corps League Flint Detachment #155. Bill’s family will be present to receive friends on Friday from 12:00 pm to 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm and again on Saturday from 11:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Alzheimer's Association or Marines Corps League Flint Detachment # 155. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Bill was born November 19, 1921, in Coleman, Michigan, the son of Mr. and Mrs. William and Naomi (O'Connor) Stemple. He attended Flint Central High School. Bill proudly served his country during WWII in the United States Navy. He and Dorothy Margaret Smith were united in marriage October 5, 1940, in Flint. She preceded him in death November 22, 1996. William worked for GM, at every plant in Genesee County, prior to retiring from Ternstedt after 30 years in skilled trades. After retiring, Bill would go on to own and operate Stemple’s Marine on M-15 in Davison for many years. He was past president of the UAW Local #326, an honorary member of the YMCA, and a 3 time Golden Glove winner in the 1930’s and 40’s. William enjoyed hunting, fishing, singing, and going to the YMCA. Left to cherish his memory are children: Carol and husband Mike Dolloff, William Joseph Stemple, Jr. and friend Donna Ryder, Sandra Ballou; grandchildren, Mark Eckler, Laurie Scribner, Robert and wife Barbara Wilcox, Michael and wife Mary Dolloff, Rick and wife Debbie Dolloff, Melissa and husband Terry Bishop, Stacy and husband Ken Hickey, Heather Stemple, Carrie and husband Fred Wright, Noel Stemple, John and wife Jodi Stemple, Robert and wife Cindy Stemple, Michelle Schrader and fiancé Greg Douthit, Brian and Brandy Ballou; 26 great-grandchildren, five great great-grandchildren, close friend, Leo Atchinson, and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Bill was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Dorothy, children; Linda Wilcox and Robert Stemple, grandchildren; Jeff Eckler and Bradley Wilcox and brothers; Paul, John, Robert, and Carl Stemple. The family would like to extend a very special thank you to Bill’s neighbors, Ed and Debbie Schmitz, for the never ending care and compassion shown to William and his family over the last several years.
