Wayne Schoeppach, Sr.

Wayne Schoeppach, Sr., age 96, of Flint, passed away Saturday, October 6, 2018, in McLaren-Lapeer. In accordance with Wayne's wishes, cremation has taken place. A Celebration of life memorial service will be held at The United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek October 19, 2018 at 11:00 A.M. with visitation starting at 10:00 A.M. Dr. Glanville officiating. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to McLaren Hospice or to the United Methodist Church of Swartz Creek, 7400 Miller Rd, Swartz Creek, Michigan, 48473. Envelopes are available at the church. Wayne was born in Flint, Michigan, on May 10, 1922, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John and Frances (Hart) Schoeppach. He married Ruth Sweet on September 26, 1942, in Mt. Morris. He proudly served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, serving as a pilot and instructor until receiving his honorable discharge on November 15, 1945. Upon returning to civilian life, Wayne graduated from the University of Michigan - Ann Arbor with a bachelor's degree in Science. He began working for Buick as an engineer in 1948, retiring in 1980, after 32 years of service. In his free time, Wayne enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling across the United States, and Europe. He also enjoyed bowling, playing cards, and golfing. Wayne was known as a jack of all trades and could build anything that he wanted including the family's home. He was a long-time member of the Swartz Creek Masonic Lodge and past member of the American Legion Post #225. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Ruth; children: Wayne (Jill) Schoeppach, Jr., and Kim (Nancy) Schoeppach; grandchildren: Dawn (Rob) Luce, Todd (Marie) Schoeppach, Jennifer (Larry) Birmingham, and Michael (Annie) Jones; siblings: Florence (Frank) Baker, and Louie (Jean) Schoeppach; seven great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, and five sisters.
