Age 90, passed away January 8, 2018. He was born in Flint, Michigan, on April 23, 1927, to Mr. and Mrs. Lincoln and Sarah Langworthy. He joined the United States Navy when he was 17 years old and served in World War II in the South Pacific on the USS Boxer and USS Gwinnett. He spent much time on Guam running a PT Boat out to the ships to bring the sailors on shore. His ship was docked in Tokyo near the USS Missouri at the time of the peace treaty in 1945. After his honorable discharge with the rank of Boatswain Mate, he attended Northeastern in Bay City and GM Tech in Flint. He then was employed at Eaton Corporation in Vassar for 38 years retiring as Chief Industrial Engineer. He was also a real estate broker for his own company Doc Langworthy Realty, which he and his wife, Lori operated for 33 years. In 2004, Doc started an old-time country and old-time gospel band called the Cass River Country and Gospel Band. He played the mandolin amongst other instruments, and he, Lori, John, Cheri, and Ray entertained at many area nursing homes for 13 years. He was also an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. On May 4, 1968, Doc and Lori Surgent were united in marriage in Richville, Michigan, by Pastor Spiekerman. Doc was looking forward to celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this May. He leaves behind loving wife, Lori; three daughters: Goldie Jean Langworthy of Caro, Diana, and husband, Tim Hill of Caro and Karen Langworthy of Lowell, Michigan; two sisters: Naomi Comment and Marjorie Langworthy of Jackson, Michigan; one granddaughter; three grandsons; a great-granddaughter; brother-in-law, Dan Surgent of Vassar, two sisters-in-law: Judy Cranick and Dorene Turner. Doc was preceded in death by his son Gregory in 1991, brother and sister-in-law Clark and Wilma Langworthy of Highland, California, granddaughter Angie Nostrant of Caro, sister-in-law Alane Baranski and nephew Michael Turner. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Vassar for over 60 years, Vassar Rotary Club Member for over 20 years holding the President position twice during that period. He was also a member of the Gideons International, Cass River Camp for over 50 years, and a charter member of the Vassar Golf and Country Club. The funeral service will be held at the First Baptist Church in Vassar, on January 12, 2018, at 11:00 am. Family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, January 11, 2018, from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Friday morning, Doc will be taken to the church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Pastor David Somers will officiate with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery with graveside Military Honors. Memorial contributions may be considered to the First Baptist Church or the Gideons International.
