Walter Edward James Roberts\ 1924-2006\ Of Mt. Morris, Michigan, age 82, died Thursday, October 19, 2006 at his home. Funeral Liturgy will take place 11:30am, Monday, October 23, 2006, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow at Calvary Cemetery. Walteras family will be present to receive friends at the Miles Martin Funeral Home Saturday from 3-8pm and Sunday from 11-3pm and again from 5-8pm. On Monday morning, Walter will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:30am until the time of Funeral Mass at 11:30am. Walter was born May 4, 1924 in Gainesboro, Tennessee the son of Mr. and Mrs. Martin Luther and Frances (Allen) Roberts. As a young man he moved to Michigan and soon after served his country in the US Army during World War II. Between boot camp and his deployment, he and Helen Dobis were united in marriage October 28, 1944 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church in Detroit. After his honorable discharge, he would become a hard chrome plater working for many facilities during his career. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris and enjoyed hunting, playing pool and especially his CB Radios, his handle being "Red Dogg." \ Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Helen, five children, Patricia Roberts of Troy, Michael and wife Kathaleen Roberts of Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Martin and wife Denise Roberts of Gaines, Frances Roberts of Mt. Morris, Geraldine and husband Timothy Butler of Burt, 7 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, 7 step great-grandchildren, four sisters, Lassie Meyer, Lena Gentry and Dorothy Pearl all of Tennessee and Mary Magdalene Smith of Georgia, special friends, Bill Fairchild of Chicago and Charlie Saltzman of Mt. Morris, and many nieces, nephews and friends. Walter was preceded in death by his son, Walter James, five brothers and three sisters. \ \
