Age 87, of Clio, died Sunday, September 27, 2015, at home. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, October 1, 2015, at 1:00 pm, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church. Pastor Gary Beck will officiate with burial to follow in Flint Memorial Park. Family will be present to receive friends at the church on Thursday, from 11:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Viola’s memory to St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Envelopes are available at church. Mrs. Strickert was born September 14, 1928, in Genesee Township, the daughter of the late Morris and the late Virginia (Thompson) Simmonds. She and Melvin Strickert were united in marriage on May 28, 1948. He preceded her in death on October 20, 2013. Viola was a member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, the Ladies Guild, and the Stephen’s Ministry. She retired from Kearsley School District where she worked in the food service area and she volunteered at Crossroads Village for many years prior to her death. She was an immaculate housekeeper and her home was always welcoming and surrounded by beautiful flowers. Her cooking and creativity with food made family gatherings treasured memories. Love of family, high standards and a strong work ethic were examples she set for her children and grandchildren. Viola was the center of her family. She is survived by one daughter: Cathy (Richard) Myers and two sons: John (Debbie) Strickert, and David (Sue) Strickert; grandchildren: John Erick, Chad, Todd, Joshua, Zachary, Jacob; special granddaughters: Mallory, and Grace; great-grandchildren: Katie, Matthew, Brandon, Gabriel, Leah, Alexander, Evelyn, Eleanor, Logan, Hudson, Easten, Violet, Jasmine, Dalila, and Novalee; one sister: Blanche Stone; three brothers: Bert, Norris, and Milton Simmonds; and several nieces, nephews, and friends. Viola was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Strickert; parents; sister, Donna; and six brothers: Norman, Ron, Raymond, Paul, Don, and Ed.
