Vincent N. “Vince” Candela, age 78, of Vassar died Friday, August 12, 2016 at his home. The Scripture Service will take place 11:00 am, Tuesday, August 16, 2016, at the St. Frances X. Cabrini Parish in Vassar. Vincent’s family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral Home in Vassar on Monday, from 3:30 pm until 9:00 pm. On Tuesday, Vince will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of service at 11:00 am. Vincent was born September 5, 1937, in Detroit, the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Nicolo and Grace (Oliveri) Candela. He and Vivian Smith were united in marriage on September 10, 1960, at the St. Frances X. Cabrini Parish in Vassar. He worked as a Security Guard and production for Saginaw Steering Gear for 30 years, retiring in 1990. After retiring he opened V&A Auto Sales in Millington. He was a long-time member of UAW local #699. In his free time, Vince enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers and Detroit Lions. Left to cherish his memory, wife Vivian; three children: Tammy (Doug) Peter, Nick (Laura) Candela, and Vince (Marney) Candela; eight grandchildren: Jenna (Brett Close) Peter, Morgan (Zach) Walker, Brandon Peter, Niccolas, Breanna, Madison, and Vincent Candela, and Alyssa Peter; nine siblings: Pat (John) Battaglia, Mona Candela, Joe (Margaret) Candela, Chris (Nancy) Candela, Nick Candela, August Candela, Grace (Dave) Bourcier, Mary (James) Wyckoff, and Florence (Keith) Siopes; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Vince was preceded in death by his parents.
