Tom was a kind, thoughtful man whose passions and interests brought joy to those who knew him. Tom had a deep love for the University of Michigan Wolverines Football, the Detroit Tigers, and especially the Detroit Lions, a commitment that was unwavering through every season. His enthusiasm for the team was contagious.
Tom was also an avid history buff with a keen interest in JFK. He had a lifelong fascination with trains, often spending hours watching them pass by, listening to the chatter on his scanner, and learning about their history and mechanics. Tom enjoyed researching the subjects of his interest and wrote many insightful Wiki articles. His family was his greatest pride. He remembered everyone’s birthday and often woke family members texting birthday wishes at exactly 12:01 AM.
Tom’s love for animals, especially his beloved cat, Paws, was another defining part of his life. The bond between them was evident, as Paws was always by his side, offering companionship and comfort.
Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his parents; Peter and Kay Doerr, his brothers; Michael, Joe, and Paul Doerr, nieces and nephews Hannah, Emma, Sam, Adler, Will, Leo, Sadie and Ruby Doerr, godparents; John and Kim Doerr, and devoted friend Paula Slingland.
Tom’s caring nature, generous spirit, and quiet and gentle humor will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Tom’s legacy will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His family thanks everyone for their support and kindness during this difficult time.
