Age 63, of Mt. Morris, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014, at McLaren-Flint of Flint. Mass of Christian Burial will take place 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 8, 2014, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris. Rev. Fr. Thomas Nenneau will officiate with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery. Shurlia’s family will be present to receive friends at the Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris on Tuesday, from 11:00 am until 2:00 pm then from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm. On Wednesday, Shurlia will be taken to church to lie in state from 10:00 am until time of Mass at 11:00 am. Those desiring may consider memorial contributions to St. Mary Catholic Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home and church. Shurlia was born February 25, 1951, in Flint, the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Thomas and Martha (Patterson) Murphy. Shurlia graduated from Mt. Morris High School, Class of 1969. Shurlia worked for General Motors for 25 years until her retirement. She was a long time member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Mt. Morris and UAW Local #651. In her free time she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren, reading, crossword puzzles, shopping, and going to the casino. Left to cherish her memory are; significant other, Barry Massey; six children; Jennifer Cummings and Fred Wilson, Barry (Juanita Johnson) Massey, Sean (Debbie) Massey, Brian Massey, Michele (Jacob) Anderson and Dawn Boyd; 16 grandchildren, Bailey, Calli, Hadley, Connor, David, Samantha, Kyle, Ashley, Arial, Jordon, Jasmine, Toni, Alyssa, Tony, Mariah and Alyssa; two great-grandchildren, Arionna and Lucas; brother Michael (Cherie) Murphy; two nephews, Patrick and Jimmy Murphy; special cousins, Rhonda, Roxy and Robin; and her two family dogs, Tilly and Ivan. Shurlia was preceded in death by her parents, cousin Donalda, and her uncle & aunt, Royal (Ruthie) Parker.
