She was born in Flint, Michigan on March 5, 1935, the daughter of Peter and Eva Irene (Louis) Gagnon. Educated locally, Shirley graduated from Kearsley High School with the class of 1953. She served as a combat medic in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict, and is mentioned by name at the women’s military memorial in Washington D.C. Shirley was incredibly proud of her military service for the entirety of her life. Upon returning to civilian life, Shirley worked for AC Spark Plug until her retirement. Her two children, Pat and Eric, remember her as a vivacious woman with a great sense of humor. In her younger years, she loved to train and ride horses. Shirley loved to fish, and make small jewelry pieces with glass beads. She also loved her rose garden, dedicating many hours to making her garden look its best. She was a “cat lady” through and through, and had decorations around her home that reflected that.
Left to cherish Shirley’s memory are her loving children, Eric Boog and Patricia Manzo; grandchildren, Eric Ryan Boog, Anthony Manzo; several great-grandchildren; special friends Linda Sterling and Theresa McNally.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; husband John Manzo, husband Stanley Boog, and true love Mabin "Al" Tinnin.
