Age 95, of Flint, passed away, Monday, December 30, 2024, at McLaren – Flint. A funeral service will take place 1:00 pm, Friday, January 3, 2025, at Martin Funeral, Cremation & Tribute Services in Mt. Morris. Pastor Brian Southerland officiating with burial to follow at Flint Memorial Park Cemetery. Russell’s family will be present at the funeral home on Thursday to receive friends from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm; and on Friday morning, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 1:00 pm. Those desiring may direct memorial contributions to the Missionary Funds at Colonial Hills Baptist Church or Calvary Baptist Church. Envelopes are available at the funeral home. Russell was born on November 16, 1929, in Flint; he is the son of Mr. & Mrs. Lloyd and Stella (Gillis) Lumsden. Educated locally, Russell graduated from Central High School with the class of 1948. Russell met and married the love of his life, Norma Carb on November 3, 1951, in Flint, at the Emmanual Baptist Church. Shortly after graduating, Russell heeded his call of duty, enlisting in the United States Army on June 19, 1951. He proudly served as a Radio Operator until March 18, 1953, when he earned his honorable discharge. During his time in service, Private First Class, Russell Lloyd Lumsden earned a United Nations Service Medal, and Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars. Upon returning to civilian life, Russell would return to work at Buick as a Quality Control Inspector for 31 years, retiring in 1980. He was a long-time member of UAW Local #599. In his free time, Russell loved spending time with family, as they were most important to him. Russell also enjoyed fishing with his wife, tending to their apple orchard, gardening, reading history books, watching the Detroit Tigers and Lions play, and his cars.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 73 years, Norma; three sons: Douglas Lumsden, David Lumsden, and Dale (Susan) Lumsden; eight grandchildren: Jennifer (Shad) Sellick, Crystal Lumsden, Julie Lumsden, Joseph (Lyndsie) Lumsden, Ashley (Mark) Coykendall, Jacob (Megan) Lumsden, Lindsay (Mark Davis, Jr) Lumsden, Jamie (Zack Shire) Lumsden; 11 great-grandchildren; and many other family members and friends.

Russell was preceded in death by his parents, and his daughter-in-law, Vicki.
